Potty Training books for children

No more Diapers for Duckie
by Bernette Ford
childrens
5/5

Ah! Potty training is in the works here at our house. Since K loves to read, I finally found two books that she absolutely loves and requests every time she sits on the potty. No more Diapers for Duckie is very simple with big pictures and few sentences. Its about friendship and learning how to use the potty. Duckie goes to pigs home to play with his toys. But, when he arrives piggie is busy using the potty and can't play. Duckie plays with pigs toys and reads his books while he waits. After awhile of playing by himself, Duckie decides he wants to use piggies potty. Off goes his diaper and he runs to the bathroom. Then piggie is the one to wait on duckie while he uses the potty. Its really a cute book. Very friendly and easy to relate to for little ones.

The potty book for girls
by Alyssa Capucilli
childrens
5/5

A little more in depth with the process of potty training. The book takes the reader through the steps of using the potty and how you know you are ready. Can you brush your teeth, get yourself dressed and wash your hands? then you are ready. This is the book K screams from the potty for. "Mom! I need the potty book for girls!" I laugh but its comforting for her to hold and watch Hannah learn how to use the potty.

Stuck in the Mud/ Where's bear?

Stuck in the Mud
by Jane Clarke
Childrens
5/5

An over protective mother hen (like me) has lost her little chick in the mud. Everyone on the farm tries to help out but everyone get stuck in the ucky yucky mud. In the end, this clever little chick decides the mud is to crowded and pops out on her own and thanks everyone for playing but nobody was really playing they were trying to help. I really enjoyed ready this book with K. We loved the pictures and couldn't stop laughing at the clever little chick who had everyone fooled.

Where's Bear?
by Hilary McKay
Childrens
5/5

As an adult, I find that all my children have that one favorite toy or blanket that they just can not live without. It goes with them everywhere and consequently everything hangs on to that one little item and its the dirtest thing in the house. But, like Simon, its not the same when its all nice and fluffy and clean. So, when grandma came over to take Simon out for the day, mom nabbed Snowtop the teddy bear and washed him. Grandma did her best to distract Simon all day so he wouldn't catch on and keep asking for Snowtop. When they returned Simon found a strange bear and not his loved snowtop sitting on his bed. But Simon nabs strange bear and goes on a hunt to find Snowtop and before you know it strange bear is covered in ucky yucky goo and Simon discovers his loved Snowtop has been with him the entire time.

Two more cute kids books that I really need to add. Its tough going to the library and filtering through all the books to find those special ones that you can read to children and both of you enjoy because they are engaging for the child and humorous for the adults so here are a couple Kyla and I found from our most recent stack that was a pleasure to read together and she enjoyed flipping through on her own.

Duck Soup

Duck Soup
Jackie Urbanovic
Childrens
3/5

As goes many of our trips to the library, we came home with a huge stack of books. I noticed this one right away from its illustrations but I didn't read it before bringing it home. I noticed that it was a New Yorks bestseller and thought I couldn't go wrong. Despite the catching illustrations, I would read this book first before you present it to your children. It can be a little scary. As I was reading, I noticed Kylas eyebrows starting to pull down with a look of great concern. The book in a nutshell is about a duck who loves to cook soup for all his animal friends. When he finally decides to make his own recipe, a dish he can call all his own, he realizes he is missing some herbs. He runs out to his garden to gather some and while he is out his animal friends drop by to see what smells so good. They notice the soup but NO duck. They come to the conclusion that duck fell inside the pot and cooked himself. The animals frantically tried to save him from the cooking pot and grabbed a strainer to catch his parts while the soup went down the drain. They mistook carrots for his feet and potatoes for his eyes. Kinda scary huh? I thought so. In the end the duck comes in and notices that his soup is gone. His friends are grateful he is unharmed and they end up having pizza for dinner and not duck soup. Like I said, its a cute book with catchy illustrations but kinda scary for my two and a half year old.

Fresh start

As you can see, I have not posted in awhile but we have been reading. updating the blog every time we read something we liked was becoming overwhelming. However, recently someone had asked me to make a list of our recommended children's books and I came up blank. Therefore I am at it again. I don't want to forget our favorite books and I missed exchanging favorite authors and talking about books in general. So, here I am again and I will try to keep up.

Two new favorites

No More Cookies
by Paeony Lewis
Childrens
5/5

What fun! All Florence wanted was a cookie. Just one! But after eating all the cookies with her monkey Arnold, mom said NO. Florence came up with some pretty creative ideas using her dress up clothes to convince her mom to have just one more cookie. Unsuccessful, mom came up with a better idea magic monkey bananas! This book was so cute. We had a great time reading it together and even made are own magic monkey bananas following the recipe in the book.

The Pout Pout Fish
by Debroah Diessen
Childrens
5/5

We loved this book too. It quickly became one of our favorites and we rushed
out to own our very own. A pout pout fish was dreary weary fish. No matter how hard his friends tried to get him to smile, he was convinced he would always be a blub. Until one day when an expected visitor came by and gave him a kiss. In which he discovered he really wasn't a pout pout fish but a kiss kiss fish spreading cheery cheeries all over the place.

Under the Bed

Under the Bed
by Paul Bright
Childrens
5/5

What a great kids book! Have your kids ever been scared of the dark when its bedtime or are they just worried there are monsters under the bed? Under the Bed talks about all the possibilities of what may be under the bed. Dragons, bugs, alligators and bears but what is to be feared the most is NOT what is under the bed what is inside the bed YOU! How cute is that? To have the monsters under the bed to be scared of you. Great illustrations and story. This is one of our favorite childrens books.

Its more political and behind the scenes then Hunger Games was. Giving more detail of the Districts. .... LOVE it and you must read to find out what happens to Katniss, Peeta and Gale!
