After reading a long book, its hard for me to jump into another one because I am still attached to the previous book and characters. I like to savour. So, to keep myself continually reading, I pick up something light and inspiring. Deseret came out with a book called Time Out for Women Live, Love and Learn. Its filled with devotional messages for women by various authors and artists and their positive out look on life. One of my favorite messages is a metaphor written by Virgina Hinckley Pearce. Allowing a time for Change.

The Last Lecture

The Last Lecture
by Randy Pausch

If you had less than six months to live, how would you live the rest of your life? The Last Lecture has you thinking about your loved ones and you just want to hold them a little closer to your heart. Randy Paush, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon, was diagnosed with ten tumors on his liver and was given only three to six months to live. With a wife and three children from the ages of 5yrs- 1yr, Randy wanted to leave something behind. A legacy for his family and for his children to one day know him. As he stated. If he could sing, he would write a song. If he could write, he would write a book. But he was a lecturer and that is was he was inspired to do. To lecture. Giving his last lecture on " Really achieving childhood dreams," Randy does not talk about dying but living! His lecture has become a phenomenon. Giving hope to those suffering from complications of cancer to the families who love them. This book has really touched my heart given my own families experiences with the heartache of cancer and my friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. I never knew what to say or what to do for those who I love and have lost someone so close. Material things don't matter and sometimes awkward silence is frightening. The last lecture has helped me understand time is all I have and one day there may not be as much as I took for granted left. Live your life to the furthest depth no matter the length of time.

Mothering with spiritual power

Mothering with Spiritual Power

I first read this book last year when I needed some spiritual nourishment. I remember bringing it with me to the dentist office and reading it. It completely took my mind off the root canal that was coming. This book had such a profound effect on me it was worth reading again. What I loved most about this book was how Debra explained how to nurture your family through these latter days with scripture accounts and stories in relation to obstacles even the most dedicated mother faces in these times. She also gave me examples through her own experiences of the importance of mothering and how it is equally important for mothers to nurture themselves in order to educate their children to their fullest potentials. She illustrated how to turn weakness into strengths and to provide a harmonious atmosphere for your family through reading and studying the Scriptures. This is a book that I have put on my list as a gift to other mothers whether they are new or pros at life as a mother. Inspiring.
